James 2:17 (NIV)

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

I recently did a Bible study activity where I was given a list of categories. I had to number my priorities from 1 to 10, not according to what I want to come first, but according to where I actually spend my time and energy.

It was a humbling look at the gap between where I want to direct my time and energy versus where they are truly focused.

Taking an honest look at our priorities reveals the condition of our heart, and where we put our faith. This is of utmost importance because, as Proverbs 4:23 says, your heart “determines the course of your life.”

So, how do we reorder our priorities and actions to grow our faith?

We need God for that!

As we redirect our time, energy, and attention toward God by spending time in His Word and prayer, He aligns our hearts and priorities with His heart and priorities.

And guess what… You’ll find that in the process, He’ll lead you to do the good things He has for you to do in the world. As we obey His leading, we get to impact others with God’s love, all for His glory!

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Living faith acts!

So as we enter 2025, let’s receive this joyful invitation to put our faith into action in the new year by spending time with God in His Word, in prayer, and responding with obedience. Allow Him to align our hearts and priorities with His, and lead us to good works as we spread His love to others.

Reflection: How has God been leading me to put my faith in action recently?

LYRICS

Called Me Higher

By All Sons and Daughters

Written by Leslie Jordan

Verse 1:

I could just sit

I could just sit and wait for all Your goodness

Hope to feel Your presence

And I could just stay

I could just stay right where I am and hope to feel You

Hope to feel something again

Verse 2:

And I could hold on

I could hold on to who I am and never let You

Change me from the inside

And I could be safe, oh

I could be safe here in Your arms and never leave home

Never let these walls down

Chorus:

But You have called me higher

You have called me deeper

And I'll go where You will lead me, Lord

You have called me higher

You have called me deeper

And I'll go where You lead me, Lord

Where You lead me

And I will be Yours, oh

I will be Yours for all my life

And I will be Yours, oh

I will be Yours for all my life

And I will be Yours, oh

I will be Yours for all my life

So let Your mercy

Oh, and I will be Yours, Lord

And I will be Yours for all my life

So let Your mercy light the path before me
