Speak Up!

Honestly, I've been pretty wrecked by the news stories coming out this week around hateful acts motivated by racism. I feel rocked to the core.

Members of my family had to fight racism to achieve their dreams. Even I experienced racism on the school yard as a kid and by well-meaning folks who have made assumptions about me because of how I look... Even in the beauty industry about what is considered the "standard" of beauty.

The Bible calls us to speak up when we see injustice. I believe we have made a lot of progress since Dr Martin Luther King Jr's time, but we still have a lot more work to do.

The way to make a real change in society is to start with ourselves.

How am I contributing to the problem? How can I be part of the solution? How and for whom do I need to speak up? Who can I befriend who doesn't look like me?

And I think everyone needs to ask these questions, regardless of your racial background. We all have a part to play in bringing change to our world.
